About us
What is London Area Right to Life Association?
The London Area Right to Life Association (LARLA) is an educational, registered, charitable organization based on the belief that every human being is unique and of infinite value. We believe in the sanctity of all life, from the moment of conception until natural death. Every human life has a right to care and protection before and after birth and society has a duty to protect these rights.
In 1969, the government of Canada liberalized the abortion law. By the end of 1980, just ten years later, statistics indicated that over half a million unborn babies had been "therapeutically" aborted in our country.
In 1988, the Supreme Court of Canada threw out the abortion law completely, leaving the unborn with no protection. Treating abortion as a humanitarian means of quickly solving a problem has led, not only to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of unborn, but also to a social attitude which cheapens and destroys respect for all stages of human life. This utilitarian attitude has frightening implications for the peace and safety of each of us. We are already witnessing a wider acceptance of mercy killing and withholding treatment for "defective" persons.
Started in 1967 as "Defense of the Unborn, " London Area Right to Life Association has been active in London and surrounding area promoting pro-life attitudes.
Members receive newsletters updating them on local happenings and pro-life related issues. Periodically, conferences and special meetings are held when videos are shown and literature is distributed. This offers an opportunity for caring, concerned people to "do something. "
London Area Right to Life Association is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. This body meets once per month for a business meeting. Every member is invited and encouraged to attend the Annual General Membership meeting, which is held in early April.
Our speakers give presentations in schools, to youth and church groups, and organizations, free of charge. These presentations may include an audiovisual presentation, discussions, and an opportunity for questions and answers.
Our office is well stocked with pro-life literature, including a library of books, videos and audio-cassettes. Our literature gives information about the development of the unborn child, teenage issues, abortion, post-abortion syndrome, euthanasia and mercy-killing, plus other related topics.
